That experience - the successful organising of a congress by your own (nursing) power and, of course, becoming acquainted with a very new type of self-confident intensive care (ESPNIC) nurses - opened a lot of new perspectives for my whole life, professionally and personally as well. Since that time I like to work with ESPNIC Nursing.
My exams for the graduation of paediatric nurse I did in Mainz in 1976. After 3 years working experience on the neuropaediatric unit of the University Children’s Hospital in Mainz, in1979 I went on working on the interdisciplinary intensive care unit. Due to family reasons in 1982 I changed to part-time work.
Besides being ESPNIC Nursing National Contact Person for Germany and Austria for a while, in 1994, I started to edit the ESPNIC newsletter.
This was again a new experience and I like this duty very much.
From 1997 to 2002 I kept the post of the ESPNIC Nursing Secretary. In October 2003 I finished a study on ‘information and communication technologies in nursing care’ with success and now I am in charge, together with my ESPNIC medical colleague Peter Rimensberger from Switzerland, to take care of the ESPNIC web site.
